Teaching our Tweens About:

Meet the Creator of Tween Spirit Society

Hi, I'm Niki,
& I'm passionate about supporting our local tweens!

As a dedicated advocate for animal welfare and conservation, I believe in the power of youth to enact positive change in the world. With a background in education, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative impact that kids can have when they are inspired and empowered to make a difference. Through the Kids for Critters Fundraiser, I'm excited to provide tweens with the opportunity to learn, grow, and take action for causes they care about.
Together, we can create a brighter future for animals in need and instill lifelong values of compassion, empathy, and activism in the next generation.

Julius Setchfield is 11 years old and has been in love with red pandas since he first saw a documentary about them as the cutest animal in the world. He then went on to research why they are endangered and became involved with the Red Panda Network, one of the top organizations helping to save the red panda. He has organized several fundraisers through his school, as well as sold his artistic drawings of red pandas to raise money and awareness of this incredibly cute and special animal.

Addy

Shortly after arriving in San Miguel de Allende, Addy's heart went out to the dogs of Mexico. Witnessing their need for love and help, she didn't hesitate to volunteer at Yo <3 Animalitos. Even when faced with the tough realities of working with animal control, Addy never gave up on her mission. On top of volunteering directly at the shelter, she loves to sell her homemade goods to raise money to buy the dogs food and treats, which is something the organization is always in need of.

Meet three of our Tweens that inspired this fundraiser...

Kieva

Kieva's journey towards becoming a champion for axolotls began unexpectedly during a visit to Querétaro, Mexico, where she stumbled upon an axolotl in a local shop. Mesmerized by its unique appearance and intrigued by its endangered status, Kieva embarked on a mission to learn more about these fascinating creatures and the threats they face. Kieva hopes to inspire others to take action and make a difference for axolotls and other endangered species. With her unwavering commitment and boundless enthusiasm, she is proving that even the smallest actions can have a big impact on the future of our planet.

Red Panda

YO ANIMALITOS

Red pandas, often referred to as "the original panda," captivate with their adorable appearance and playful demeanor. Found in the mountainous forests of the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China, red pandas are skilled climbers and spend much of their time in trees. Unfortunately, habitat loss, poaching, and climate change threaten their survival in the wild.

Yo Animalitos, based in San Miguel de Allende, is a beacon of hope for animals in need. With a mission to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome abandoned and abused animals, Yo Animalitos is dedicated to creating a compassionate and nurturing environment for every furry friend. Through their tireless efforts and community outreach programs, they strive to raise awareness about animal welfare issues and promote responsible pet ownership. Yo Animalitos embodies the spirit of love and compassion, transforming the lives of animals and humans alike in San Miguel de Allende.

Due to habitat destruction, pollution, and the introduction of invasive species, their native habitat in the Xochimilco canals of Mexico City is rapidly disappearing. Additionally, the illegal pet trade and exploitation for scientific research further exacerbate their decline. Without immediate action to protect their fragile ecosystem and regulate their trade, axolotls face the risk of extinction in the wild.
